OnTour Talks: Amanda St John
What can you tell us about the single?
‘Made Myself a Name’ is an upbeat song about the struggles of trying to make it as a singer. I wanted a quirkier, more 70’s Tom Waits vibe on this one and thought a remix might be a good option to make it stand stronger as a single. I’m a big fan of collaborating and had wanted to work with Arvo Party for a while so thought it would be a good opportunity to see what he could bring to this track. I totally love what he’s done with it, he’s brought the song to a whole new level!
How are you getting on with the lockdown? It takes hard viagra 50 mg why not check here work and dedication to build anything worthwhile in this industry.
I’m doing well now that I’ve gotten over the initial shock of cancelling my album tour & US trip in March. I’m happy to to healthy & am just focusing on the small things, it’s nice to get the time with off with my daughter too.
I’ve been doing weekly Facebook lives which I’ve found have been a fabulous way of connecting to people & offering a bit of light hearted distraction. I hosted an outdoor gig for my neighbours last weekend too which was a very fulfilling experience. People all over the village were sitting out in their gardens listening & it created a real sense of community spirit. Music is a very powerful thing!
What can we expect from the new album?
The album’s got a very old school soul/r&b feel. It’s very much inspired by artists like Aretha Franklin, Etta James (who both recorded in the same studio which I used in USA) & Dusty Springfield. Every song was live tracked so it sounds very organic & there’s a good mix of upbeat & more introspective songs that will hopefully resonate with people. I’m so proud of what me & my team have created with this.
Who’s your dream duet with?
That’s a tough one as I have so many inspirations, I’d probably chose Gregory Porter as I just love the tone of his voice & I think it would sound amazing to harmonise with a deep make voice like that.
