The sheer invention and energy of Pat Metheny’s music continues to shine, always searching for new sounds and ideas whilst retaining the melodic force and free-wheeling, joyous drive that has been his hallmark since he took the jazz world by storm in the 1970s. The twenty-time Grammy winning guitarist , recently inducted into the Downbeat Hall of Fame as its youngest member and only the fourth guitarist, Metheny will present a range of music from throughout his career.
‘A tour de force of a live show’ (Guardian)
In this new quartet, his unmistakable guitar style is matched with the ‘stupendous improviser and remarkable musician’ (Independent), the multi-award winning, home-grown UK pianist Gwilym Simcock, the brilliant bassist Linda Oh, who ‘controls the bass in a contradiction of elegance and pure physical power” (NYS Music), as well as long-time Metheny drummer and composer of the Birdman soundtrack, Antonio Sanchez, in a band that positively exudes class.
‘Possibly the greatest musician ever to grace a guitar, and over 20 Grammy awards and three gold records are more than enough proof. Watching him perform on 5 different custom guitars throughout the evening was an awe-inspiring experience’ (medium.com)
