Scottish Singer KT Tunstall Kicks Off SOMA 2019

Singer-songwriter extraordinaire, KT Tunstall, will open the 2019 SOMA Festival in Castlewellan with an intimate set of her best-selling songs on Wednesday, 17th July.

Now in its seventh full year, SOMA, has a track record for attracting outstanding headline acts to the County Down town.

KT Tunstall, the latest of these, will play at St Malachy’s Church as the festival once again brings a host of acts and events to Castlewellan.

“I’m hugely looking forward to playing the Soma Festival and visiting beautiful Northern Ireland again. It’s such an intimate show, I’m excited to curate a special solo set to reflect the space” said KT.

Festival director, Tiona McSherry, said they were delighted to welcome the Scottish artist to the SOMA Festival.

“Since she broke through in 2004 with her song ‘Black Horse and the Cherry Tree’ Tunstall has achieved remarkable success,” she said. “Her many hits, awards, and most importantly her songs have ensured her ongoing achievements.

“KT Tunstall’s live performances are remarkable, and the chance to see her in such an intimate setting is a real one-off.”

Joining the Scottish star at the festival will be Honeyfeet & Cormac Neeson. The singer of The Answer has recently released a solo album ‘White Feather’ a deeply personal collection of folk, country and fusion tracks that has received rave reviews.

As well as the headline acts the SOMA Festival hosts a range of events, sure to please lovers of traditional and contemporary arts.

Once again there will be SOMA Mind, Body and Soul to help everyone revitalise and relax with a range of alternative and holistic events across the weekend.

Tiona said everyone involved – and residents of Castlewellan and beyond – is looking forward to the festival.

“We’ve come far since that fabulous first incarnation of Soma, a humble weekend affair with one major, sublime concert; a few excellent masterclasses; an art exhibition (also excellent); a hotchpotch of traditional music sessions scattered throughout the town and a cast of dedicated volunteers running ragged making sure the whole thing didn’t come apart at the seams.”

With over 60 activities and events in this year’s festival, there is something for everyone.

Tickets for KT Tunstall, priced £28, are available via the festival website www.somafestival.com or follow the festival hashtags #thesomafestival and #féilesoma2019
