Local legend Van Morrison recorded a very special video message for Snow Patrol at the NI Music Prize
On Thursday November 7th, Snow Patrol performed a very special set at a sold out Ulster Hall as part of the NI Music Prize, the annual awards show that celebrates new and established music from NI.
Snow Patrol were honoured with the Oh Yeah Legend award, which sees them join a list of peers and fellow musicians that includes Stiff Little Fingers, The Undertones, Ash and Terri Hooley to name a few.
Local legend Van Morrison recorded a very special video message for Snow Patrol at the NI Music Prize, as the band were honoured with the ‘Oh Yeah Legend Award’ as supported by PRS for Music, at the prestigious event in Belfast on November 07th.
Van Morrison sent Snow Patrol a surprise video, which was played to the band as they picked up their award. He said “Congratulations on your music legends award. You are great ambassadors for Northern Ireland and I hope you have a great evening”
The presentation was made by Stuart Fleming from PRS for Music and the band were welcomed on stage by long term friend Mike Edgar, who described them as “a band that have done so much for Northern Ireland”.
Mike went on to say “20 years ago I stood on a stage down in Dublin and handed them the Phil Lynott ‘new band’ award in 1999 and what a journey it has been for Snow Patrol over that time. They are now the most successful band to ever come out of Northern Ireland.“

They are truly inspirational and their place in history is guaranteed.”
The award piece, which was a specially commissioned by Heather Wilson, was inspired by the bands love of home. Titled ‘Constantly Searching for a Dull Moment’ it references the pull of the Northern Irish and Scottish landscape and the feeling of ‘home’, the space where you can breathe, where the extraordinary is found in the freedom of the ordinary everyday. The original bespoke sculpture was created from an alchemy of photographic print, aluminium dibond, acrylic, silver and jesmonite.
Snow Patrol have had an incredible twelve months marking their 25th anniversary year as a band, with a world tour, a sold out Ward Park 3, and the recent release of their ‘Reworked’ album.
